As we all continue to wonder what is happening with our church, I wanted to let you know that I am very hopeful. When Rick McClatchy from CBF, Texas came last Wednesday he said a lot of things that we need to continue to think about. We had a debrief session on Wednesday at prayer meeting and I am sensing a bit of relief in the people I am visiting with. I think, if we can prayerfully move forward together, WHBC will come out on the other side of these difficulties looking more like the church of Jesus Christ than we ever have before.

With that said, know that we are talking about what to do next. The key is to be very focused and disciplined with our actoins. We have to move forward as a congregation. It has been said that a person lacking discipline is in a prison without bars. I think this goes for a church as well.

One first step is to embrace a deeper walk with Jesus this Lenten season. Lent begins on Wednesday with our Ash Wednesday service. I am planning on reading a book I read a long time ago by Henri Nouwen called The Return of the Prodigal Son. Is there a spiritual practice you might engage in to prepare for Easter? We will put out some Lenten Devotionals, feel free to pick one up.

I think if we keep praying and learning we have hope as a church. The one question that keeps going through my mind is: What opportunity is this presenting?

What opportunity do you see?

I would love to hear your stories about reaching out, your ideas about serving our communiity. This is a time to be excited and ready for the Holy Spirit to be active in our lives and in our church.

If you are interested Rick McClatchy suggested a few books he has found helpful:
1. Two books on missional church Missional Renaissance by Reggie McNeal and Change the World: Recovering the Message and Mission of Jesus by Mike Slaughter. I have read both a while ago an may have to pull them out.
2. More information about the retreat series he mentioned (and we are considering) www.cbf.net/dawnings
3. A book for leaders Leadership In Constant Change: Embracing a New Missional Reality by Terry Hamrick.

Two articles I found interesting this week:

Hope you enjoy and know I am praying with and for you.

Onward!
