Can you believe school has started once again? There is a lot going on in the world and sometimes it seems pretty overwhelming. The pace of our lives is fast no matter what phase of life you are in. We are staring back up our WEDNESDAY PRAYER next week at 6pm in the Fellowship Hall. When things seem a bit overwhelming there is nothing better than gathering with other followers of Jesus and praying.

Volunteer NEED.
Are you looking for a way to serve WHCC? We are in need of a Church Volunteer Coordinator - a person who has a passion for helping people find significant places of ministry at Western Hills. Check out this job description (it is also attached to this email) and if you are interested shoot me an email at ccobb@westernhills.life

MarriedPEOPLE
I was counting up married couples we have in our church and figured that about 1/2 of our congregation is married. We are starting a new ministry for MarriedPeople in our congregation. Well, we know you are all really busy with life. It looks different for each of us depending on what stage of life we are in. Some of us are taking care of little kids, others are taking care of aging parents. Some of us are consumed with school, others work. We also know it’s often a challenge to find the time to focus on your marriage. So, we want to help you with that. Attached to this email is a newsletter we are going to send out each month. A little bit of marriage work goes a long way to a healthy marriage. We will also have some simple organized activities throughout the year to help you strengthen your marriage. As we start we are going to send this out to everyone, feel free to forward it to other people you know who might benefit.

Here is a funny video - fun fact, I have a secret desire to own a Harley (Kelly says it will never happen and no that is not why we are starting the above marriage initiative, LOL).

One of the reasons we partner with the Texas Baptists is that they have an organized ministry that can help in situations like 'Harvey.' Take a look at the TEXAS BAPTIST MEN site and discover how you can contribute and where 100% of your donation will go to help.

Keep praying for the growth and health of our church, our neighborhood needs us more than we can imagine.

ONWARD!
Chris

August 4, 2017

Can you believe August is already here? I received word from Barry that things are going well in Vermont and they have had some successful events/outreaches. Continue to pray for Barry and Ann as they are on this mission trip. I am so excited to see what God is doing at WHCC, can you sense God is up to something? Lets all continue to pray that God leads us as we are learning together and inviting others to become committed followers of Jesus Christ. Is there someone you have met this week who you need to invite to church? Don't hesitate, take them out to coffee before church and then sit with them during the service. As I talk with visitors and guests we have at church I am so encouraged by what they say about their visit. One of the main things people are telling me is that they feel welcome. Thank you for being such a sweet and welcoming group!

Just a reminder that we are going to take Wednesdays in August off and will begin our prayer times the first Wednesday in September.

A verse I have been thinking about a lot:
John 14.21 (Jesus speaking) Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.

Here is a great quote to think about, substitute 'church' for 'workplace' and it takes on a whole new meaning.

“Every time you open your mouth, you influence the culture of the workplace. You have the opportunity to change and improve employee morale, engagement, and productivity. You can affirm worth and potential by providing encouragement and showing support for your people. You can ignite a fire within people.”― Michael Simpson, Unlocking Potential: 7 Coaching Skills That Transform Individuals, Teams, and Organizations
If you have been waiting to get some exercise, read this article. Exercise is the miracle drug, talk to your Dr. before you start a program, but get going it will help you a ton!

Mom's you will immediately get this, all others will just laugh...watch here.

On a personal note, please pray for me as I have to be strong on 8/16 as I have to drop off my girl at DBU. I know she will do great and it is only 30 minutes away...but this may be difficult for 'dad.'

Thanks!

Onward,

Chris
